Crookham Common man whose home destroyed in fire overwhelmed by help

Tim Enburey, aged 40, was left with only a few rescued photos of his mother after fire ripped through his mobile home in Crookham Common Caravan Park.
He told Newbury Today this week that he was still living in temporary accommodation provided by pub landlady and neighbour Julie Cooper, the owner of Crookham Village Stores and the Travellers Friend, who started a collection at the pub and shop together with an appeal to help him.
“I’m so grateful,” said Mr Enburey, adding that his cat Tilly, who firefighters rescued from a caravan window during the fire, was also well and happy.
The donations that he had received included a microwave, television, clothes, shoes, training shoes and cutlery.
“I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by people’s generosity and kindness and donations of money,” he said.
He added that he couldn’t be more grateful, especially to Mrs Cooper and her husband John, for their help, along with support from his employer Robert Dyas, in Basingstoke, where he works as an assistant manager.
Complete strangers have turned up on his doorstep with items. “It’s unbelieveable, I didn’t think anything like this would happen,” he said, adding that he hoped one day to return to his static home, which was uninsured at the time of the fire.
“I’m devastated as it was my home – I bought it with my mum’s money when she died,” he said.
He would be sure to insure it in future, if it could possibly be restored, he added.
Meanwhile, Mrs Cooper has been busy organising a fundraising night for Mr Enburey, at the pub next month, after local band The Grove Thing offered their services free of charge for the cause, comprising musicians from Newbury, Thatcham, Theale and Tilehurst.
The night will also be supported by family butchers Wyatts, of Tadley, who have donated hog roasting machinery and a pig to spit roast.
The Grove Thing will be at the Traveller’s Friend pub in Crookham Common on Friday, July 5, from 7pm onwards.
There will be a suggested voluntary door admission of£1.50 per per person.
