The Downs School Summer Fete welcomes whole community
A Compton school welcomed the whole community for its annual fete.
More than 400 people visited The Downs School and Sixth Form’s annual summer fete on Friday, July 19, in what became one of the hottest days of the year.
The event featured inflatable assault courses, food and craft stalls by more than 15 local businesses, a BBQ managed by the 1st Compton Scout Group and a nerf gun battle provided by Compton and Beedon Primary Schools.
Mayor of Newbury Andy Moore joined the event in the afternoon and said: “It was wonderful to be a part of The Downs School summer fete.
“The dedication and enthusiasm of all the students, staff and volunteers was fantastic.
“Well done to everyone involved in putting on this fantastic event.”
The Downs business manager Rebecca Brophy added: “We were thrilled to see the event so busy, and we sincerely thank all our staff, suppliers, stallholders and 1st Compton Scouts for their support and involvement.
“We must also thank our students who kept us entertained with songs from the latest performing arts production ‘Bugsy Malone’ in early July as well as many more crowd-pleasing songs.
“We look to continue this tradition in 2025.”
