Crowds flocked as Aldi supermarket opened its doors today (Thurs)

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the London Road store at 8am this morning, with the store manager James Bish doing the honours and officially declaring the store open.
More than 20 jobs have been created locally as a result.
Area manager Tim Mattos said: “After seven months of preparation, we’re ready to welcome customers into our new Aldi store, one of several now open in Berkshire. The team and I are really looking forward to opening the doors and showcasing all that Aldi has to offer. With some great ‘special buys’ up for grabs, we’re expecting plenty of people down at the store to join in the celebrations.”
The store will be open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday and will provide shoppers with special buys on Thursdays and Sundays.
The opening of the Aldi store will not be the newest supermarket in the town centre for long, as Morrisons plans to open a convenience store at the site of the soon to close HMV store in Northbrook Street.
