Thatcham Town Council brings community together for ‘fantastic’ first Chinese New Year Market

Thousands joined Thatcham’s first Chinese New Year Market yesterday (Sunday), the town council has said.

Visitors to The Broadway were treated to an array of crafts and food stalls selling a mix of Chinese street food as well as Thai, Indonesian, Japanese and Taiwanese cuisine.

But the highlight of the event was undoubtedly the traditional lion dances, by Lion Dance UK, performed for good luck and to drive away evil spirits.

The market also showcased unique crafts, jewellery, handmade accessories and home and beauty products created by Asian traders.

“A council that truly values inclusion, equality and community spirit. Let’s continue to stand in solidarity and support events that bring us all together,” said Community United, a not-for-profit which brought its own vibrant celebration of culture to the town last year.
