Culture Fest brings taste of the exotic to Newbury
The flagship heritage and diversity event in the West Berkshire calendar, Culture Fest, drew more than 2,000 people to the venue for a day of music, arts, crafts, dancing and a celebration of the district’s vibrancy and diversity.
From dancers of the Scottish variety, to the Egyptian belly variety, martial arts displays and the sounds of the ever-popular Newbury Sing for Fun choir, all corners of the globe were represented through an array of colourful workshops and performances.
The activities were not limited to observing or tasting however as Thai foot massages and Indian head massages were doled out alongside Henna body art painting.
A spokeswoman for the West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum, Waheeda Soomro, said: “The event was excellent, we had wonderful weather and a fantastic turnout. Culture Fest really is a unique, inclusive and accessible event for all to enjoy and participate in.
“With the support of some great artists, performers, local groups and organisations we were able to showcase some fantastic and diverse opportunities and initiatives.”
Culture Fest is sponsored and supported by Greenham Common Trust, Sovereign Housing, West Berkshire Council and NHS Berkshire West.
