Cyclists warned to 'be safe, be seen'

Police will stress the importance of displaying lights on bicycles during winter months

WEST Berkshire Council is holding a ‘Be safe, Be Seen' event this month to ensure cyclists stay safe in the winter months.

On Wednesday, October 26, members of the council's road safety and transport policy teams will be running a cycling treasure hunt at Newbury Library, between 10am and 2pm, with prizes for people who find all the answers around Newbury.

At the same time, Thames Valley Police will be on hand to raise cyclists' awareness of the importance of displaying lights on their bicycle during the winter months.

Local officers will be advising adults of their responsibility to keep themselves safe and if enforcement fines are issued, they can be cancelled if a validated receipt for cycle lights is presented at a local police station within seven working days.
