Dads take on Lands End to John O’Groat




Four dads are taking on a gruelling cycling challenge to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

John Hill and James Baker, who both live in Newbury, are part of a team planning to cycle in a non-stop relay from Lands End to John O’Groats – a distance of more than 1,000 miles and over 55,000ft of climbing.

The Newbury Velo Cycling Club members are taking on the challenge in support of the MS Society.

Describing themselves as “average cycling dads in their 40s”, they are taking on the challenge with friends Lee Manford and Chris Foster and plan to complete the epic journey in under 61 hours.

“We will be accompanied by an exceptional support crew of six volunteers as we embark on this extraordinary adventure,” said Mr Hill.

“The challenge we face is not only physical but also a logistical undertaking of massive proportions.

“The unwavering commitment of the four drivers, team photographer, and paramedic has been pivotal in making this feat possible. With their valuable support, this ambitious venture is poised to become a remarkable testament of teamwork and determination.

"We are thrilled to embark on this inspiring journey to raise awareness and funds for the MS Society, which is a cause very close to our hearts.

“We are grateful for the invaluable support we have received thus far and encourage readers to donate to our JustGiving page and show their support.”

The team will set off from Lands End at 5am on July 7 and hope to arrive in John O’Groats at approximately 6pm on Sunday, July 9.
