Damage caused to Thatcham Town Council Jubilee Sensory Garden

Damage has been caused at Thatcham Town Council’s sensory garden.

The dementia friendly Jubilee Sensory Garden opened in October 2022.

The space itself fits multiple sensory components from flowers of multiple colours and scents and fruits and vegetables to places to sit for a quiet escape, a path to wander down and a bug garden.

Bunting has been cut and trees have been either snapped or pulled from the ground.

Rubbish has been left and debris has been strewn across the footpaths.

The council said all of this happened overnight.

The council took to Facebook to say: “Despite the beautiful, frosty conditions here this morning it appears as though someone has been intent on causing damage to the Jubilee Sensory Garden.

“Overnight the bunting has been cut, trees have been pulled up from the ground (or simply snapped off) and visitors have left rubbish and debris strewn across the footpaths.

“This garden is for everyone in the community to enjoy and whilst the damage could have been worse, it remains incredibly disheartening to see particularly for our hard-working gardener.”
