Dance music returns to Reading
Mango DJs bring back a different kind of party
TWO DJs and producers from Reading, JP McDonald and Martin Sandford, have come up for air during the recording of their new album to breathe the life back into the Reading club scene.
Overseeing a relaunch of Bar Mango, in Hosier Street, the pair are bringing a party atmosphere to the club and the town, and to kick things off the opening night will begin with a free barbecue and drinks promotions before things get going at 10pm.
Active in the music scene in Reading for a decade, releasing underground music which has brought them a cult following locally and across the globe, earlier this year Dark Matter moved into production and are hard at work recording their album.
Currently spitting their time between Partly at Riot! Recording Studios in south east London, and their own home-built Dark Matter studio in the heart of Reading town centre, they hope the new album will drop in March 2012.
JP said that all those people who couldn't afford to go clubbing in London just needed to look around and see that there was a town here which could put on quality acts and music.
He said: “Reading has an amazing history of great clubs and music.
“Having moved more to a town that has wine bars and restaurants, some dance nights have suffered in the past.
“We felt that Reading needs a different kind of party, bringing back the excitement of dance music to the area.”
He added: “Our next night in Reading is a new concept called Time – Not just house music showcasing the best in local talent, and talent from afar.
“We've always featured and promoted local DJs at our nights in the past, and will continue to do so. There is exceptional talent in the local area, which deserve to be heard.
“Expect some amazing blends of music from amazing DJs from Berkshire, across the UK, and the world.”
With BBC Radio 1 airplay, positive rumblings in the industry from dance magazine such as MixMag, and numerous airings on internet radio stations, the buzz around the pair is growing ahead of what is hoped will be a March release.
Time – Not just house music is at Bar Mango on September 17. Barbecue at 8pm.
