Dance teacher to perform at London 2012 closing ceremony

Former headgirl at The Clere School, Burghclere, Holly Unnuk beat thousands of other dancers to get the chance to perform in the Olympic stadium on August 12.
The 22-year-old was a pupil at West Berkshire Ballet School from aged four to 16, but now teaches at the school, run from the Memorial Hall, Upper Bucklebury.
“I will be performing in front of millions,” Miss Unnuk said, with a sense of shock. “Normally when you perform you can see the people in the audience, but this is just on a massive scale.
“It was very exciting when I found out I had been picked. Thousands of people auditioned. It’s definitely something to tell the grandchildren.”
After her training at West Berkshire Ballet School, Miss Unnuk, of Ecchinswell, won a scholarship to the St Bede’s Legat School of Dance, East Sussex, and then took a degree at Laban Conservatoire for Contemporary Dance in London.
The 22-year-old will now put her 18 years’ experience into the biggest performance of her life, but unfortunately she cannot reveal anything about the show.
“We’re sworn to secrecy, so I can’t say anything about where we’re rehearsing or about the routine for the closing ceremony,” she said.
It is a double celebration for the north Hampshire girl, because the Olympic torch comes through West Berkshire on her birthday, July 11.
“I can’t believe the torch is coming to Newbury on my birthday,” she said. “I’m not sure what I’m doing on the day, but I’ll have to try anmd get into Newbury to see it."
