David Walliams completes Thames swim

The Little Britain star has raised more than £1m for Sport Relief

CROWDS lined the banks of the Thames in London this evening to celebrate David Walliams' remarkable feat.

Walliams started the 140 mile swim near the river's source in Gloucestershire on September 5 and finished just before 6.30pm this evening (Monday).

The 40-year-old suffered a stomach bug on day two of the challenge but battled on to complete the challenge in eight days.

He swam through West Berkshire on Thursday where he was cheered on by hundreds of spectators as he passed Goring, Streatley, Pangbourne and Whitchurch.

He stopped off at The Swan public house at the banks of the River Thames in Pangbourne for a rest and a bite to eat.

On Saturday he saved a Labrador who got into difficulties after jumping in to greet him near Cookham Lock.
