Day in honour of emergency services at Newbury Racecourse
The Dubai Duty Free Weekend features 14 races over Friday April 20 and Saturday April 21.
Today (Saturday April 21), emergency services personnel and under 18s get in free for a day of racing and fun packed family entertainment.
The work of the Emergency Services will feature, with demonstrations and interactive displays by the police, ambulance, air ambulance and fire services. Proceeds from the raceday will be in aid of the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance (TVAA), set to take centre stage, with a special visit to the racecourse during the day.
For younger racegoers, Fireman Sam will be making guest appearances along with Ted, Elphie and Max from the Channel 5's children’s television programme, Milkshake; City of Friends.
Racecourse mascot, Harry the Horse, will be handing out his free Harry’s Hot Shot Kids packs, joined by Bob - his TVAA counterpart.
The flat season got into full swing with seven races yesterday (Friday), followed by the Group 3 Greenham Stakes today (Saturday), over seven furlongs, with a new sponsor - AON.
Yesterday, HRH The Queen attended ahead of her birthday weekend.
The Queen regularly attends this fixture and had two horses racing, Sequence ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Sir Michael Stoute and Momentary ridden by Hayley Turner and trained by Michael Bell.
Other names to attend included Rory McIlroy, who overtook Luke Donald as golf’s top ranking player just three days ago, who attended for the first time with girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki.
Together, the couple gave the best turned out award to Roger Charlton’s Newnton Lodge.
