Decision deferred over proposals for Wolverton lime quarry
The plan was to use the quarry, which lies in an area of natural beauty, as a transfer station for construction, demolition and excavation waste, which parish councillors and villagers fear could result in hundreds of extra lorry movements along the A339 and through neighbouring villages.
At a recent meeting of the full Tadley Town Council, Basing-stoke and Deane borough councillor Graham Round (Con, Baughurst and Tadley North) said that a decision by Hampshire County Council on the application, by Tadley company John Stacey & Sons, had been put back until October 23, when a further highways report was due to be received.
Mr Round said that Tadley would be affected by heavy traffic, with some 100 additional lorry movements a day if the proposals were approved.
Kingsclere borough councillor Cathy Osselton, who is already battling against HGVs travelling through the narrow streets in Kingsclere village, including Swan Street, said she would be speaking on behalf of villagers.
The proposals were originally due to be decided in July. The initial date was deferred until September, and now again by a further month.
The initial delay over the decision followed amended plans submitted by Stacey’s.
Parish councils in Hanning-ton and Baughurst have also protested against the proposals.
The plans can be viewed on the county council’s website,
