Defibrillator installed at The Moors Pavilion

A defibrillator has been installed at a popular playing field after “several years of campaigning”.

Grassroots football club Thatcham Tornadoes this week announced the new automated external defibrillator which was installed last month.

The proposal from the football club was approved by Thatcham Town Council in late December last year.

It was provided by the Premier League Defibrillator Fund.

Thatcham Tornadoes safeguarding officer Howard Martin said: “At Thatcham Tornadoes, we’ve been highlighting the need for a defibrillator onsite at Lower Way for many years.

“Whilst we hope we never have to use it, if the need arises, we can access this life-saving device within minutes.

“Previously, the nearest defibrillator was located at Thatcham Broadway or the Memorial Hall.”

Mr Martin added: “Everyone saw the heart-breaking scenes at last summer’s European Cup when Christian Eriksen collapsed on pitch. He would not be with us today had it not been for his team mates administering CPR until the medical staff came on pitch with a defibrillator.

“We are delighted to see Eriksen back playing football but perhaps his legacy will be seeing more defibrillators installed at grassroot football venues up and down the country.”
