Delays in Newbury after swan is hit by a car
DELAYS of around 20 minutes are currently being experienced in Newbury after a swan was hit by a car on the A339 today (Fri).
The incident happened between the Sainsbury’s and Robin Hood roundabouts at around midday.
Traffic is currently queuing all the way around the Robin Hood roundabout and back up the opposite carriageway of the A339 and on the opposite carriageway, as far back as the Halfords roundabout.
There were further delays when the car of a motorist who stopped to aid the injured swan overheated.
Michelle Hayes, who lives near Pangbourne and stopped to help said: “I saw the swan lying there injured and put something over it. It looked like its wing was broken.
“As I was helping smoke started bellowing out of my car and the policeman rushed over to rescue the children.”
The swan was taken to Falklands Veterinary.
