Delivery driver attacked in Newbury - police appeal for witnesses as well as dashcam and CCTV footage
A delivery driver was left with a fractured cheekbone, eye socket and jaw after an assault in Newbury.
The man, who is in his 30s, was hospitalised and will require surgery on his injuries after the attack on Thursday (July 25).
At around 5.25pm that afternoon he was delivering parcels when two men got out of a blue Volkswagen and approached him at the junction of The Nightingales and Howarth Court.
The men chased him and managed to grab him before punching and kicking him.
A 33-year-old man from Newbury was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent yesterday (Monday) and has been released on police bail until October 14.
Today (Tuesday) a 31-year-old man from Newbury was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at the time of writing.
Investigating officer DC Elin Wylie-Davies, of Newbury CID, said: “I appreciate the circumstances of this assault may be concerning but we believe it was a targeted attack with no threat to the wider public.
“Anyone with concerns can get in touch or speak to a uniformed officer in the area.
“I am appealing for any witnesses to this assault to please come forward.”
She asked any witnesses or anyone with information or any images or footage of the assault to call 101 or make a report on the Thames Valley Police website, quoting reference number 43240357244.
“You can also send footage to us, such as CCTV, dashcam or video doorbell, directly via this dedicated online portal,” she added.
“We believe the occupants of a silver Vauxhall Astra witnessed the assault so if that was you or you know whose car that is then please get in touch.”

The victim was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged. He will need to return for surgery at a later date.
