Denison Barracks to continue as military base

And Richard Benyon, MP for Newbury, welcomed the news announced by the Government yesterday (Tuesday) that the barracks in Hermitage will continue in military use.
Mr Benyon campaigned against the decision by the last Government to close the base following the relocation of the Royal Engineer units currently stationed there.
Following Tuesday’s announcement of the closing of bases in Germany, it has been announced that £10m will be invested at Hermitage in order that it can house the Military Stabilisation Support Unit, the Defence Cultural Specialist Unit, Land Intelligence Fusion Centre and 15 PsyOps Group.
Mr Benyon said: “This is superb news for Newbury and West Berkshire.
"I am delighted that there is still going to be a military presence here and that the MOD are investing for the long term.
"Like many, I remain sad that we are losing the Royal Engineers as they have formed such a close bond with the local community, but we welcome these new units and look forward to building a long term relationship with them.”
