Diamond wedding couples to renew vows

West Berkshire Council seeks couples for special celebrations in the year of the Queen's diamond jubilee

COUPLES in West Berkshire who are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year are being offered the chance to renew their wedding vows on the weekend of the Queen's diamond jubilee.

The Government has announced a four-day jubilee weekend taking place from June 2 to 5, in line with the Queen's diamond jubilee, and West Berkshire Council is seeking couples celebrating their diamond wedding this year to join in special celebrations, including a celebratory luncheon, hosted by the chairman of the council, Peter Argyle, at the Regency Park Hotel in Thatcham.

One couple from Thatcham has already stepped forward and all couples attending will have the opportunity to renew their wedding vows on the day.

Mr Argyle said: “I am very keen that local residents who are celebrating their own special day have the opportunity to join us in marking the royal anniversary. I urge anyone who knows of someone marking their diamond anniversary in 2012 to help them get in touch so we can invite them to a very important celebration.”

Registrar for West Berkshire, Julie Young, said it would be a wonderful experience and a privilege to renew wedding vows on that weekend, adding: “ I'm looking forward very much to meeting the couples."

General manager of the Regency Park Hotel, Gary Ockwell, said they were delighted to be hosting the special event and looked forward to welcoming couples celebrating their diamond wedding anniversaries.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact West Berkshire Council on (01635) 519125 or email pr@westberks.gov.uk
