Digby Croft on verge of being sold

St Bartholomew’s School Foundation could sell the building after plans to turn it into a home are approved

ST BARTHOLOMEW'S School Foundation could be on the verge of selling Digby Croft after gaining planning permission to turn the office into at least a four bedroom house.

The foundation is looking to sell Digby Croft in Buckingham Road, Newbury, which was once used as school offices but has been empty since the school moved to its new building in November last year.

The trustees propose that Digby Croft, which is situated next to the historic Luker building, is turned into at least a four-bedroom property and have now gained planning permission to change its use from office space to a residential property.

Estate agents Jones Robinson, Bartholomew Street, Newbury, who are selling Digby Croft on behalf of St Bartholomew's School Foundation, confirmed that the property, which has a guideline price of £650,000, was already under offer.

Former headteacher of the school and director of Ad Lucem project to redevelop the school's buildings, Stuart Robinson said: “The current use of Digby Croft ended in November 2010 when we moved into our new school.

“It has been used on an ad hoc basis since.

“The charitable foundation is looking to sell Digby Croft for developers to redevelop into a home.”

Any development of the building is likely to be subject to a section 106 agreement with contributions towards adult social care, improvements to existing public open space provision and health provisions.
