Newbury MP on influential government committee on housing
Lee Dillon, MP for Newbury, has been elected to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee.
This committee scrutinises government policies that impact housing, local authorities, and the development of communities across the country.
"Being elected to this committee is a privilege and an opportunity to make real changes at a time when housing and community issues are at the forefront of the national agenda," he said.
“The housing crisis affects so many lives, and I’m determined to hold the government to account on delivering the solutions we urgently need.
“As Newbury’s MP, I’m committed to ensuring our community’s voice is heard, and that we push for policies that deliver more affordable homes and better support for our local councils."
Mr Dillon previously worked for Sovereign Housing before being elected.
"Housing is more than just bricks and mortar—it's about people’s lives and futures," he added. "My 20 years as a councillor and my background in social housing give me the insight and experience to make a real difference.
“On this committee, I’ll be pushing hard to address the housing shortages that are leaving families in crisis and ensuring local authorities have the resources they need to support our communities effectively."
The committee will be tackling issues such as housing affordability, the financial sustainability of local councils, and how best to support vulnerable communities.
Mr Dillon said his election is a significant step forward in his mission to advocate for better housing conditions, a stronger voice for local governments, and a fairer distribution of public resources.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to shape policies that could transform lives," he said. "I’m proud to bring my experience and commitment to this role, and I’m ready to fight for the changes our communities deserve."
