Lions and fairies take to Greenham Common for Young People and Children First fun run
The sun shone over Greenham Common on the weekend as fairies and dinosaurs ran to raise money for Young People and Children First.
The Newbury-based charity, which aids young vulnerable people, held its first fun run on Sunday morning (February 27).
Around £750 was raised for upgrading a bathroom in one of the homes which currently houses four young people.
Senior fundraiser Sarah McGill said the event was “wonderful” and commented on the “lucky” weather following the recent stormy conditions.
She said: “The sun came out, it made it such a lovely fun event, the people that ran for us really enjoyed it.
“I could not believe how lucky we were. It was brilliant.”
Attendees, too, appreciated the positive atmosphere, encouraging additional events.
“A couple of people said this is such a nice event. I hope it becomes a regular thing,” she added.
She also highlighted the importance behind the fun, commenting on the difference it would make to the young people supported by the charity.
She said: “That money is going towards upgrading the bathrooms, which we weren’t able to do during Covid times.
“They are 10 years old, a number of young people have come through the house. It is overdue, I would say.
“We couldn’t get in and do it [during Covid] but it would make a big difference to them. The shower will be upgraded, it will be great for them.”
The senior fundraiser got into the spirit herself, attending as an inflatable horse, with YPACF CEO Tracy Underwood joining her as a lion.
Mrs McGill added: “A number of runners dressed up. There was a Batman and Robin, it was brilliant. We got our trustees involved. It was a great big family event.”
