Disabled riding group celebrates 40 years in Baughurst
About 150 people involved with the association both past and present, were at the invitation-only party, held at Haughurst House, the home of villagers William and Sarah Maltby.
Baughurst RDA was formed in 1973 by Pat Magill and among those at the party were Saxon Wood special needs school teacher Susan Sullivan, who said that the set-up, displays of horses and pictures, games for the children, food and cakes were outstanding.
“The location was stunning, too, and the theme of Neverland was wonderful for the children,” she said, adding that the welcome and hospitality made everyone very happy and at ease.
Equally appreciative was the school’s former deputy headteacher Jennie Shelvin, who took pupils along to the riding lessons that the association held in the village for several years.
She said that it was lovely to see everyone again and to thank them for the “amazing work you all do for the pupils at Saxon Wood and Maple Ridge Schools, Basingstoke.”
