Discovery of suspicious canister closes road in Mortimer

Police were called to Reading Road at 2.56pm after a canister was found leaking an unknown liquid near the gates to Mortimer Woods.
A hazardous materials unit, an incident control vehicle and one fire engine have been sent from Dee Road and Whitley Wood fire stations.
The Reading Road has been closed and police have placed a 100 metre cordon in the area between the Padworth Road and Longmoor Lane junction.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Nicole Targett, said that it was possible that the road would be closed for some time.
