Disruption for Newbury rail commuters as services cancelled due to staff self-isolating
Commuters and New Year’s Eve revellers travelling by rail today (Friday) are urged to check their journey before they travel after several trains going through West Berkshire were cancelled due to staff shortages.
Great Western Railway, which operates the service, said increasing numbers of its staff were being required to self-isolate.
This has led it to cancel some trains to ensure it’s able to maintain service levels across its network.
A spokesperson for Great Western Rail said: “With rising numbers of staff unavailable to work due to self-isolation requirements, we’ve taken steps to maintain service levels across the network.
“Unfortunately, this includes planned cancellations designed to minimise the impact on as many customers as possible.
“As a result of the cancellations, some services may be busier than normal.
“Please check your journey before you leave home at GWR.com.
“Customers choosing not to travel can claim a full refund.
