District 36th best rural place to live
The district scored well in personal wellbeing, with 7.42 adults out of 10 reporting themselves as happy, and only 3.02 classing themselves as anxious.
West Berkshire was among the highest in the country in terms of health, where 96.8 per cent of households rated themselves in good, or fairly good health.
It was also in the top half of the table for broadband, with 80 per cent of households having access.
However, the district had the highest burglary rate on the list, with 36.4 households in every 10,000 affected.
Halifax used a wide range of statistics from various sources to find the top countryside idylls, including those relating to the health, personal wellbeing and life expectancy of residents, crime rates, weather, employment and broadband access.
The results show rural areas in the south tend to receive stronger ratings for factors such as employment, earnings, health, and weather, whereas rural areas in the north typically perform better on school exam results and lower house price to earnings ratios.
Residents of Uttlesford in Essex enjoy the best quality of life of any rural area in the UK, according to the survey.
The survey examines all 119 rural local authority districts.
