Wiltshire Police divers search car submerged in icy waters at Great Bedwyn




DIVERS have searched the interior of a car found submerged in icy waters.

Thankfully, there was no one inside.

As previously reported, witnesses spoke of seeing emergency services at the towpath and divers entering the water around 11am today, Sunday, December 18.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police told Newburytoday.co.uk: "Police were called to the canal in Great Bedwyn shortly after 9.40am today following a report that a vehicle had been located in the canal.

"Officers and fire crews attended the scene as it was not initially clear whether or not there was anybody inside the vehicle.

"A search of the vehicle was conducted and the owner was located safely in a nearby canal boat.

"Nobody was injured."
