Celebrations today (Saturday) promise colour and spice in the Hindu Festival of Lights

THE annual Diwali Mela celebrations at St Bartholomew's School, Newbury, will take place between 4pm and 9pm this evening (Saturday).

The Hindu Festival of Lights celebrations promises to be a glittering affair, with authentic music and dance, food and, of course, lots and lots of oil lamps.

Visitors can expect an energetic performance from the Dhol Player Collective or join in the fun in the Bhangra disco.

Organiser Waheeda Soomro, of the West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum, said: “It will be a fantastic fun evening, with lots of opportunities to learn.”

Entry is free, but meal tickets have sold out.

Please email waheeda@all2gether.org.uk to confirm attendance.
