Diwali, fireworks and Halloween celebrations today in West Berkshire
THERE is something to keep the whole family entertained in West Berkshire today.
Cultural performances, a Bollywood disco and a four-course Indian buffet is being planned at the Racecourse Newbury in celebration of Diwali this year.
The event, organised by the West Berkshire Indian Society (WBIS), will start at 4pm and run until 10pm.
Also at Racecourse Newbury will be a spectacular firework display hosted by the Newbury Lions from 7.30pm.
There will be celebrations in Silchester, with pumpkin judging at 6.30pm, before the bonfire is lit at 7pm. The fireworks will then wow crowds at 7.30pm.
Elsewhere, at 2pm and 5pm, The Corn Exchange will be hosting a spook-tacular evening of activities including a bone-jangling disco dancing competition, a prize for the best costume, family-fun events, a walkabout ghoul and the chance to get up close with a Royal Python, Chilean Rose Tarantula and their creepy crawly friends.
Newbury author David Marsh will be at Waterstones to sign copies of his latest book, For Who the Bells Tolls, at 2pm.
Tickets cost £30 for adults and £15 for children, to include the buffet meal, and can be purchased from Chilis Indian Restaurant, Station Approach, Aja Foods, Bartholomew Street and online at www.groupspaces.com/westberkshireindiansociety
