Do not pass go: Newbury thief Peter Berry sent straight back to prison

IT’S back to prison for a convicted thief caught trying to steal cars.

In January Peter Berry was jailed for three months for shoplifting.

He served around half of that in custody and was due to serve the remainder on licence in the community.

But on Wednesday, April 30, the The 32-year-old, of Queen’s Road, Newbury, was back in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court.

There, he admitted interfering with a Vauxhall Combo parked in Night owls, Greenham, on Sunday, April 27, with intent to steal it or any goods inside it.

Berry, who was legally represented by Sotiris Yakoumi, further admitted an identical offence in respect of a Lexus LBX parked in Spa Meadow Close, Newbury, on the same date.

Magistrates sentenced him to 12 weeks imprisonment.

No order for costs was made because of his lack of means to pay.

Magistrates said a custodial sentence was necessary because Berry had re-offended while released early from prison on licence.
