Woman wants answers after dog badly injured in Kingsclere

A Kingsclere woman claims her dog was badly injured at a local beauty spot – and she wants to raise awareness about the hazard.

Store manager Charlotte Sutton was walking at Gailey Mill in Kingsclere last Thursday (September 16), when her dog Cassie was injured by metal stakes emerging from the water along the footpath.

Cassie needed emergency surgery to treat injuries to her stomach.

“It’s a beautiful spot where children and dogs have played in the stream for generations,” Mrs Sutton told newburytoday.

“However, last Thursday my sprocker spaniel skinned her stomach whilst jumping into the water.

“It has required her to have emergency surgery and constant ongoing care.”

Another resident has since covered the stakes with foam and caution tape.

But Mrs Sutton is still not satisfied and said she has contacted the county council and her local MP about this issue.

A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said: “We are sorry to hear about this incident.

“We are currently investigating whether or not the county council has responsibility for the management of this section of footpath.”
