Dog owners urged to microchip their pets
Dogs Trust Newbury will chip dogs for free as part of National Microchipping Month
A NEWBURY dog charity is urging owners to take part in National Microchipping Month to help prevent the heartache and pain caused by lost pets.
For the month of June, Dogs Trust Newbury, in Hamstead Marshall, is providing the service, and between June 13 and June 19 will chip dogs free of charge.
A microchip is a small electronic device the size of a grain of rice that is implanted under the dog's skin.
It is coded with a unique number that is linked to their owner's contact details on a national database.
Microchipping helps to permanently identify dogs, and an owner can only be contacted and reunited with their missing dog if their registered details are up to date.
Anyone interested can call 01488 658 391 to make an appointment. All dogs are eligible, not just those rehomed from Dogs Trust.
