Lurchers are most common dog found by West Berkshire dog wardens

West Berkshire is a dog warden short – and so is trying to recruit a new one.

The team covers authentication of ownership, re-uniting and re-homing, alongside other animal warden related enforcement work.

This includes dog fouling complaints, dangerous dog complaints, and other animal welfare queries.

A Freedom of Information request for 2022 and 2023 discovered that a total of 132 dogs had been found by the team across West Berkshire, Wokingham and Bracknell.

Of those dogs, 56 were returned to owners. Seventy three were rehomed from the pound, and 43 were not chipped.

Lurchers were the most commonly found breed by the team.
