Dogs Trust Newbury open day raises over £5k

A doggy dash was part of the furry antics, along with a family fun dog show and barbecue, hosted by the trust at Plumb’s Farm, Hamstead Marshall, where hoards of two and four-legged supporters turned up.
Thanking everyone for their generosity, the trust’s manager, Maureen Iggleden, said::
“Our volunteers and staff worked hard to plan all the activities and it was great to see everyone enjoy them; it’s been the highlight of our year so far.”
“It was such a pleasure to see so many dogs who have been rehomed from the centre come back with their owners to visit us. That’s always the icing on the cake.”
Funds raised, she added, would help the trust continue to find homes for stray and abandoned dogs.”
The best in show award went to a dog called Freda, owned by Sue Anwar from Inkpen, while 12-year-old Mokey, owned by Carol Hoyle, of Kintbury (pictured) won the Dogs Trust’s Rogues competition – which celebrates dogs from the trust now enjoying life in a new home.
Other prizes were awarded for the handsomest dog, prettiest bitch, veteran dog, waggiest tail and best trick.
A raffle and tombola, Dogs Trust merchandise and pet portraits, were also on offer, alongside plant, book and bric-a-brac stalls, with barkingly good homemade refreshments.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cares for over 16,000 stray and abandoned dogs each year, through 18 rehoming centres across the UK.
