Domino's alcohol delivery given green light by council

Customers ordering food for home or business delivery will be able to order from a alcoholic drinks menu, which will include one red, one white and one rose wine and two types of beer.
No alcohol will be sold over the counter.
The application faced strong opposition from members of Newbury Town Council when it was considered earlier this month, who argued that the scheme would be like “delivering alcohol on a platter” to underage drinkers and questioned the safety of drivers when alcohol was refused to underage or already intoxicated customers.
The drivers can refuse to hand over alcohol orders to anyone who is already intoxicated or who fails to provide valid ID, as well as it they suspect the alcohol is being ordered for the consumption of those under 18.
Alcohol will only be delivered if food is also ordered, however further details on whether there would be a minimum food order could not be given.
Agent John Gaunt said at the meeting last week: "We do not expect this to be a large part of our business.
“It’s a convenience offering and there’s no mischief in that.”
