Donations from local organisations bring in new car for charity

West Berkshire estate agent Jones Robinson, Sovereign Housing regional panel and the Newbury Round Table contributed £3,148, £3,500 and £2,805 respectively to the fund, which has been used to purchase a new Skoda estate car.
The new vehicle will be used to transport elderly, disabled and vulnerable people to appointments, and replaces the12-year-old Ford Focus which was formerly used for the service.
The director of the VCWB, Garry Poulson, said: “It’s fantastic that three very different types of organisations value our volunteer car scheme in this way and we are really pleased with the new car which is low emissions, costs only £20 a year to tax and achieves nearly 60 miles per gallon.”
The charity is now appealing for three to four new volunteer drivers who would be willing to donate one morning of their time each week to transport Newbury residents to local appointments.
Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact the VCWB on (01635) 49004.
