Donkeys on the common prove a hit with visitors

Hosted by the South Region of the Donkey Breed Society, five donkeys were driven by their owners around the common, starting from the control tower, at 11am.
Clare Strang drove a four-wheeled cart pulled by Murphy and Moonshine as a pair, Clare Humphries drove a two wheeler with Frosty and Dandy in tandem and Trudy Affleck drove Tilly in the Dorsal Hitch Sulky.
Veronica Lilley, one of the organisers, said: “The event was very popular with the drivers and the people who walked with them and will become an annual event. As expected it attracted much interest from people on the common.”
Drivers kept to the paths to avoid both ground nesting birds and disturbing the herds of cattle and Exmoor ponies on the common.
Greenham ranger Adrian Wallington and countryside officer Simon Barnett were involved in the organisation of the event.
