Donnington Castle House to undergo repairs

Plans submitted to West Berkshire Council to refurbish the "tired" exterior of the grade two listed building

REPAIR work could be carried out on the exterior of some of the buildings at Donnington Castle House, under new plans submitted to West Berkshire Council.

An application in the name of Colin Franklin is seeking permission to repair and refurbish the exterior of the ‘tired' buildings, remove a number of post dated 1947 ancillary buildings and carry out some minor interior alterations.

The Castle Lane property is grade II listed and was built in the 17th century, with many later additions in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The application states that there are two major areas of external repair to the Coach House; where the gable wall to the front is dangerously falling down and the side gable end of the building, where it states that the timber frame and brick walls have rotted and collapsed.

It adds: “These areas will require some major repair works to ensure the buildings remain for the future.”

Meanwhile, the application also includes a number of internal alterations that were approved as part of a previous application, but which have not yet been carried out.

A decision on the plans is due to be made by the district council in January.
