Donnington golfers take to the skies in charity skydive
Daredevil club members raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation
A GROUP of golfers from Donnington Grove Golf Club undertook a daring skydive recently to help raise vital funds for a cancer charity.
The skydive, organised by Donnington Grove’s ladies captain Sue Kingham-Paxton, raised more than £5,000 for the club’s nominated charity of the year, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Nine of the club’s members took the plunge at Chiltern Park Aerodrome, Wallingford, with many of the members using the event to remember family members who had died from cancer, and to kickstart their fundraising partnership with the charity.
After the jump, Mrs Kingham-Paxton said: “My husband died of lung cancer in 2004 and when talking with friends about selecting a charity to fundraise for we remembered that there was Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.”
Daughter Wendy Breach, who also took part, said: “We thought supporting the charity was the perfect way to remember my darling dad and adored granddad”
The charity’s London area fundraiser, Iyabo Oba, praised the club’s members.
She said: “We are so grateful for the group from Donnington Grove Golf Club for taking
on such a challenge to raise money it is such a great achievement.”
