Donnington guider honoured for long service
Brown Owl with 1st Shaw-cum-Donnington Brownies Janet Wood was presented with a specially-designed brooch by assistant county commissioner Karen Burrows, at a recent pack holiday at Thirtover Place, Cold Ash.
Ms Wood, aged 51, first became involved in Guiding when she joined 1st Shaw-cum-Donnington as a Brownie, aged about seven.
She said: “I’m extremely proud to have received this award.
“I have got so much out of Guiding through the years and I never would have thought that when I joined so many years ago I would still be involved to this day. “I’ve seen guiding change as the lives of girls have changed.
“I would like to dedicate this award to all of the girls I have had the pleasure of knowing over the past 30 years as a leader because watching them grow and achieve has been an incredibly rewarding experience.”
Ms Burrows said: "I would like to thank Janet for all her hard work.”
During her time, Ms Wood has gained the highest Guiding achievement, the Queen’s Award, and has held various positions both within the district and division.
