Donnington homes application resubmitted
Developer Commercial Estates Group had submitted an outline application to build up to 401 homes straddling the A339 on land to the north and west of Vodafone’s headquarters in Newbury.
The plans also include a community centre and and land set aside for a primary school if it is required by West Berkshire Council.
As previously reported in the Newbury Weekly News, council planners threw out the previous application because it relied on a roundabout owned by Vodafone to access the site, forcing CEG to submit a revised application.
Development manager at Commercial Estates Group, Matthew Tunley, said:“Commercial Estates Group has submitted a revised planning application to West Berkshire Council, for the land to the north of Newbury.
"The red line boundary has been amended to include the road known as ‘The Connection’ to Vodafone within the development site, to respond to a request from the Council. No other changes have been made to the planning application.
“The Council will now restart its consultation process on the new application, which means that the local community has another opportunity to comment on the application.”
Residents have created the Donnington Valley Action Group and are fighting any development in the area.
They fear that the development would ruin the rural character of “the beautiful valley”, and that the current infrastructure will not be able to cope with hundreds of new homes.
Group member, Ian Miller, called for those who had objected to the previous application to resubmit their comments to West Berkshire Council’s planning department.
