Claire French, prosecuting, said officers had cause to stop Lee Edward Thorogood’s car in Oxford Road Newbury and smelled the Class B drug.
She added: “They found two spliffs in the stairwell on the driver’s side.”
The 33-year-old, of Raleigh Avenue, Swindon, admitted possessing cannabis on December 2 this year.
Mike Davis, defending, said: “He works in a warehouse locally and said he had been cleaning his car after work and the drugs were to relax him while he did so.
“It was a very small amount.”
Mr Thorogood was made subject to a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £40 costs and £15 surcharge.
