Drink drive teenager ploughs into wall

In the dock on Thursday, January 8, was 18-year-old Nathan Pagliaroli, of Lyon Close, Thatcham.
Helen Waite, prosecuting, said: “Police received reports at 3.50am that a car had collided with a brick wall in Station Road, Thatcham, and that the occupant had left the scene. Officers obtained the registered keeper’s details from the car, as it was still in the wall. They went to Mr Pagliaroli’s address and he freely admitted being the driver.”
Mr Pagliaroli was arrested and was subsequently found to be more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
Tests showed 80mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, the court heard.
The legal limit is 35mcg.
Mr Pagliaroli, who has no previous convictions, admitted driving a black Mercedes C220 after drinking more than the legal limit and failing to stop after an accident, both on November 1 last year.
The prosecution offered no evidence on a third charge of driving without due care and attention on the same occasion, and this was formally dismissed by magistrates.
Paul Gilmartin, defending, said his client had been in the bar owned by his family in Thatcham and had left for an evening out, using a taxi.
He added: “For reasons he can’t really explain, he then went back to the rear of the bar and took the car with the intention of driving a short distance. After the accident he simply went home and, of course, he shouldn’t have, he should have stayed. He freely admitted being the driver of the vehicle and was fully co-operative throughout.
“He bitterly regrets the incident and he will never repeat it.”
Magistrates banned Mr Pagliaroli from driving for 20 months.
In addition he was fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs plus a statutory surcharge of £20.
