Drive home from pub ends in ditch

Police attended and found that 32-year-old Jorge Blanco Estevez, of Island Farm Road, Ufton Nervet, was more than twice over the legal alcohol limit, the court was told on Thursday, May 23.
Naomi Edwards, prosecuting, said: “The Vauxhall Astra was in a ditch in Spring Lane, Sulhamstead, when officers arrived. There were two people in the car but Estevez was the driver.”
Tests later showed 76mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Mr Estevez admitted driving after drinking more than the legal limit on May 5 this year.
Stephen Collins, defending, said his client had been drinking in the nearby Spring Inn and had consumed “five or six pints” before setting off for home with a friend.
He added: “He had a dog in the car with them. The dog was playing up and distracting him and he ended up in the ditch.”
Magistrates banned Mr Estevez from driving for 20 months and fined him £300 with £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
