Driver banned for a year after "dangerous" barrier dodge

Roxy Primrose Cox ignored the warning lights and drove her car around the closed barriers last December. The signaller was forced to delay the exit barrier sequence so that she could safely cross to the opposite side.
Tony Conn, Network Rail’s level crossings manager, said: “Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. We have received reports of a number of people not obeying the warning lights and risking their lives and other people’s to save a few minutes on their journey.”
The woman was found guilty of dangerous driving at Reading Magistrates Court last Thursday and was fined £375 with £750 in court costs, as well as receiving the 12-month driving ban.
In an effort to avoid what Network Rail refer to as “this kind of dangerous behaviour” the company are offering people tours of the Kintbury signal box which they say is an effort to improve safety by informing road users about the dangers and appropriate use of level crossings.
Anyone who is interested in one of the signal box tours on August 28 and August 29 should contact Bill Veloz on 07476 418853, or via email at kintburycrossing@hotmail.com
