Driver with life threatening injuries after A34 crash
The incident happened at around 5.40am after a car overturned, having come off the A34 at Bullington Cross north of Winchester, while travelling south.
The blue Ford Mondeo became airborne and landed on its roof on the slip road underneath the A34.
The driver, a 25-year-old man from Birmingham, was freed from the vehicle by fire crews.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital with life threatening injuries to his head and spine and remained there yesterday (Monday), in a critical but stable condition.
No other vehicles were believed to have been involved, according to police.
Closures and diversions put in place were lifted around 11am.
The A34 was also closed northbound on Sunday afternoon (Feb 17) following a serious collision at 4pm between Three Maids and Sutton Scotney Services
The collision involved one car which overturned several times, before coming to rest down an embankment.
Three people were in the car, one was removed to safety, the other two were trapped in the car.
The southbound carriageway was also closed to allow the air ambulance to land and take off.
The A34 northbound was also closed overnight between Chieveley and Beedon on Saturday and Sunday (Feb 16/17), between 10pm and 6am, for road re-surfacing work.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the Bullington Cross collision early on Monday morning, or saw the Ford Mondeo driving prior to it.
