Drop-in centre for stroke sufferers launches

A new drop-in centre for stroke survivors opens in Newbury today (Thursday). Its first two-hour meeting will be held from 2pm until 4pm.

All stroke survivors are welcome to attend the meetings which will initially be held once a month at the Newbury Methodist Church, Northbrook Street. The centre aims to provide stroke survivors a place to meet fellow sufferers and both a physiotherapist and nutritionist will be there to offer advice, answer questions and give lifestyle suggestions.

The chairman of Stroke Care Newbury, Adrian Foster-Fletcher, said: ”Our new drop- in centre allows us to considerably extend the reach of Stroke Care provision in Newbury.

“By offering these services, as a direct result of the Council extending our funding, we are able to make a big difference to the long-term health and wellbeing of stroke survivors in West Berkshire.”
