Drummers draw crowds at HMV
A group of drummers came together to show off their skills in HMV for a performance on July 22.
Fifteen students really got the crowds of shoppers going with their covers of well-known pop and rock songs.
The ‘Drum with Alex’ students, aged six to 30s performed a number of songs from Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles and Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana to Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz.
Tutor Alex Lewis said: “It was really busy, I did not anticipate how busy it would be.
“It was really good fun.”
The entertainment retailer hosts artists to perform during opening hours from national stars to locals.
Mr Lewis secured the gig after popping into the store one day when walking through Parkway Shopping centre.
He said: “It was really nice. There was a round of applause after the performances which is really positive.
“For some it was a first public performance, some have done but for the majority it was a first.”
The Newbury-based tutor admitted that he did feel a little under pressure on behalf of his students but was left overwhelmed with the positive response.
“I think I was more nervous for them, I expected three people to turn up but it was terrific.
“It was just really satisfying because we all have a lot of pride in what we are doing.”
