Drunk man was pub employee, court hears

Bunk Inn man was 'clearly drunk'

A RAGING drunk who was arrested for disorderly behaviour in a pub turned out to be a member of staff, Newbury magistrates heard.

The unusual twist was outlined by Helen Waite, prosecuting on Thursday, March 10, who told the court how police officers were called to reports of a man being aggressive in the Bunk Inn at Curridge.

She said they found 26-year-old Jiri Plechata “very unsteady on his feet, smelling of alcohol with eyes glazed, clearly drunk.”

The man was ranting about the pub and his job, swearing continuously, the court heard.

Ms Waite said officers tried to placate Mr Plechata, of Kiln Drive, Curridge, but when he persisted in shouting and swearing, they eventually arrested him.

Mr Plechata admitted being drunk and disorderly in public on February 20.

He has no previous convictions, the court heard, but was cautioned for a similar offence in December 2014.

Representing himself, Mr Plechata told magistrates he had been “under pressure” in his job at the Bunk Inn but was now no longer in employment.

Magistrates made him subject to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £85 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
