Drunken mum 'ashamed' over police attack
Officers were trying to help, court hears
A DRUNKEN mother kicked the head of a police officer who was trying to get her home safely, Newbury magistrates heard.
And she racially abused another while neighbours, woken from their sleep, looked on, the court was told on Thursday, October 15.
Laura Frampton, of Craven Road, Newbury, was mortified when shown filmed footage of the incident and branded her own behaviour “disgusting”.
Helen Gambrill, prosecuting, said an officer was concerned for her safety because she was so drunk, and offered to escort her home safely.
But, she added, the 22-year-old went berserk when she lost her keys, shouting and screaming and waking neighbours.
She had to be handcuffed and taken to the floor and, in the melee, tried to kick the officer in the head, the court heard.
When another officer came to assist, the mother-of-one racially abused him.
Ms Frampton admitted two counts of assaulting an officer and one of causing racially aggravated alarm or distress, all in Newbury on September 12.
After later being shown police body camera footage of the incident, she declared: “I’m so ashamed of myself.”
Sarah Neighbour, defending, said her client was “disgusted” at her own behaviour towards two officers trying to help her.
Ms Frampton handed magistrates a letter in which she apologised and, the court heard, she had spoken to her neighbours to say sorry.
A probation officer told the court Ms Frampton was not racist and had no idea why she had resorted to such abuse, and that she wanted acknowledge the officers’ kindness.
Magistrates made Ms Frampton subject to a 12-month community order with £180 criminal courts charge, £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
In addition she was ordered to pay £50 compensation to the officer she had injured the most badly.
