Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a boy
A statement from Kensington Palace said that the baby weighed 8Ibs, 6ozs and was born at 4.24pm.
The document also said that Prince William was present for the birth.
Momentum for the royal birth had been building in Bucklebury, where the Middleton family now live, and close to where the Duchess was raised in Chapel Row.
The landlord of the Cottage Inn, Gary Bush, told NewburyToday last night: "I'm a little bit shell shocked. We have waited and waited and today we were on tenterhooks all day.
"We are over the moon. It's the King of England - from Bucklebury. That's what we have got to remember. From this tiny village we have got the next King."
The owner of the Bladebone Butchery, Martin Fidler, who was invited to the royal wedding, said: "The country needs a bit of smiling put on their faces. The people need a bit of an uplift and this will be a great uplift for the country.
"We are all very protective of the family because we [love] them all so dearly, we have been friends for so long."
And the owner of L Interiors, Lynda Tillotson, who has created special mugs to mark the royal birth, said that the village would be celebrating the news.
"We won't just have one [bottle of champagne] - we will have a few. There will be a bucket of champagne in here to toast it.
"The few of us businesses in Bucklebury, there won't be be one in Bucklebury who won't have a bottle in store - or 10."
Baby Cambridge will be third in line to the throne and his birth represents the first time since Queen Victoria that three generations of successive royals have been alive at the same time.
